BTC Launches Hybrid Classes to Meet the Needs of Today’s Learners
Posted on December 16, 2025
Bolivar Technical College (BTC) is introducing hybrid learning beginning January 2026, bringing a new level of flexibility and innovation to nursing education.
What “Hybrid” Means for Nursing Students at BTC
Hybrid education blends the accessibility of online learning with the hands-on rigor of traditional classroom and clinical experiences. Students complete part of their coursework online through interactive content, video lectures, and discussion forums while continuing to attend campus for in-person labs, simulations, and clinicals that develop essential patient-care skills.
This approach gives students the flexibility to learn on their own schedule while maintaining the accountability and connection that comes from in-person instruction. It’s education structured around how today’s learners absorb, retain, and apply information best.
Why BTC Made the Shift
BTC’s decision to implement hybrid courses emerged from both evolving student needs and a commitment to forward-thinking education.
Director of Nursing Education Erin Mock, MSN, RN, CNE, explains, “We wanted to adapt to the reality of how people learn today: shorter bursts, more engagement, and more flexibility. Hybrid learning lets students take in material online in manageable segments, then come to campus ready to apply and practice those concepts. It’s efficient, interactive, and exactly how nursing education should look in 2025.”
We began testing hybrid delivery years ago, and as students increasingly balanced work, family, and school, the demand for greater flexibility grew. The success of our fully online RN to BSN program also demonstrated that we had the infrastructure, faculty expertise, and student support to expand into a more blended learning model.

“This isn’t about removing the personal, hands-on experience that makes BTC unique,” Mrs. Mock adds. “It’s about enhancing it. We’re giving students more control over their learning while keeping the same level of support, mentorship, and clinical rigor we’ve always had.”
We are excited to offer hybrid classes designed to provide students with flexible learning options while maintaining the personal support they’re known for. From a detailed orientation that gets you started on the right foot, to ongoing assistance both online and on campus, they’re with you every step of the way.
“At BTC, we’ll always be the place where we know you by name and help is always available,” says Mrs. Mock.
Evidence-Based and Nationally Aligned
BTC’s hybrid model aligns with the latest standards from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), both of which recognize technology-enhanced learning as an essential tool for preparing nurses for the modern healthcare environment.
Our readiness for this transition is backed by years of investment in online learning infrastructure, including a secure Learning Management System, faculty certification in digital instruction, and comprehensive student support through the BTC Success Lab and online tutoring.
How It Will Work
Starting in January 2026, classes at BTC will include a hybrid component. Lecture-based portions will move partially online, while labs and clinicals remain in-person to ensure hands-on competency and skill development.
Mrs. Mock sums up our approach, “This is 2025 nursing education: modern, flexible, and focused. We’re not changing what makes BTC special; we’re expanding it to meet the realities of today’s learners and tomorrow’s healthcare professionals.”
