The Gray Matter Initiative

Building the brains of tomorrow's nurses.

What The Gray Matter Initiative Offers

If you’re a junior or senior at select local high schools* and are thinking about a career in nursing, this is a chance to get a real head start. Through The Gray Matter Initiative, you can take Anatomy & Physiology I and II at Bolivar Technical College for college credit and it won’t cost you anything. BTC covers all costs.

The Gray Matter Initiative is a great way to participate in college-level science courses with plenty of guidance along the way. The coursework will be online so it works into your current high school schedule. Then, you’ll come to campus (1135 N Oakland Ave, Bolivar) to work with our instructors for specific hands-on learning in our state-of-the-art science lab. These classes will build a strong foundation to understanding the human body, a critical piece in becoming a skilled nurse.

*Local high schools must be approved by BTC to participate in this program.

Explore Programs at Bolivar Technical College

After you finish your A&P classes, you’ll already be ahead in one of BTC’s nursing pathways. The best part is that you can choose the route that matches your goals, your pace, and the future you want. Every pathway leads to a meaningful career in nursing, and you can stop at any level or keep moving whenever you’re ready.

  1. Start with the LPN program and begin working as a nurse sooner. If you want to keep going, you can bridge into the RN program at any time.

  2. Or jump straight into the RN program after high school graduation. Again, if you want to keep going, you can complete our RN to BSN program when the time is right. This option can also get you to your bachelor’s degree in about 3 years, depending on your pace.

Along the way, you’ll have opportunities to earn income as a student nurse and even start working in the field while you continue your education. BTC’s pathways are built to grow with you; no unnecessary classes, no wasted time, just a clear, supportive route into a nursing career that fits your life.
